Since I'm so much into macro, I've decided to invest in a real good trekking shoes. Bought Columbia Mud Trek shoes few weeks back. And now I'm on my way to do my macro with Siew Yian and Master Peter. Can't wait to see how those good soles can support me in muddy grounds and rough rocks.
It's been 7 days of working and finally it's off day. I'm gonna be going through the typical 'Monday Blues' and 'TGIF' kinda working environment from now onwards. Now that I've been through the first week at work, I had a good overview what my clinic does and had a good introduction to the doctors whom I'll be working closely with.
Generally our small department, consisting only 7 staff including myself, is easy to handle. Staffing are always 'just nice' and when one takes sick leave, there goes! The clinic will get messy. I've started hearing some political issues here and there, and I'm surprise how in a small department, there's still politics lying around. Well, I guess seldom will there be a working environment that's not politic. I'll shall be neutral.
Attended support groups and meeting this week. And I felt the importance of them needing a staff nurse around in the clinic. Besides giving injection and changing dressing to the outpatient patients, patient with osteoporosis and who has just done bariatric surgery, I need to reports abnormal results, list patient for operations and take over as a supervisor roles when supervisor is not around. Clinics will then be run by me and I've to know what to do. I'll see this opportunity as an early training being a senior staff nurse in a year to come (Hopefully I'll get my promotion then).
My clinic deals with one who is severely obese and are interested to go through surgery that is done to their stomach to control food intake. I'm glad SGH is the first to give out such services in singapore. Because our doctors get themselves specially trained in that. They went on to Life Talks, Prime Talk Morning, CNA to publicize on the option to locals who are concern about their weight and eating habits. I've seen a lot of successful patients who get themselves back on shape and looks very much more confident with life. It's really a happy thing to see everyday in the clinic. Patient comes in to the clinic with hopes and also with smiles on their face.
So far working at Life Centre have been very much happier than in wards. Next week will be an intensive week for me when morning Ill have to run clinics and afternoon attached to Specialist clinic to work. This carry on for the next 1 month. Fingers crossed. Everything will turns out well. :)
Till then.
Finally ended my shift working hours yesterday in Ward78. And today, I've finally moved on to Life Centre starting my journey of an office hour job, after waiting for 1 year. Before I went for Advance Diploma, I've wanting to change my working hours to something more regular, so that I can keep up a healthier lifestyle in return not to fall sick so easily. So during Advance Diploma, it shows how effective it was for me to be fit and healthy with a regular hours/ routine in life.
78 has been very experience-ful for me. Getting to nurse VIPs, getting knowledge about chemotherapy (which everyone hated most), getting to see different things I've not seen in other wards. However, to me, it's definitely not a very healthy place to work in for long term. The staffing is horrible, and there goes the workload. The radiation especially, is one main reason I choose to leave. It's nice learning about chemotherapy, but handling them for long term? nah... it's ok.
So back to my main topic. First day at life centre, started work at 8.15am as requested by Sister Moh, and ended work at 7pm. Being the first staff nurse attached to life centre has it's pros and cons. I was given a consultation room of my own, where I'll help doctors give injections and change wound dressing. Job scope are basically quite independent and I really gotta pick up real fast. Cons being the only nurse is that, responsibility and expectations from me, a Staff Nurse, is much higher. I'll need to be pretty confident with my work because I need to educate patients and relatives.
I'll be seeing a lot of diabetic cases, eating disorder cases, osteoporosis cases and also obesity cases. Pretty much being to get the patient to change their lifestyle and maintain good health. (Prolly I will be able to get free advices from the doctors to maintain my own healthy lifestyle too.) For the upcoming 4 weeks, I'll be stuck on intensive trainings to train me to mend the whole clinic on my own. I foresee it can be quite stressful and high responsibility load in times to come. Especially when Sister Moh goes on annual leave.
A good start today. I'm happy with my working environment, being very near to the greens in SGH, and near to the gym. All the best to me, in my new territory. :)

The above genre are some other skills that I've learnt within the past 5 months. A flying 5 months for me. And more skills incurring for me.
Working harder now to see better results.
A lil' gift that motivates me to work harder. The cute lil' Nikon Keychain,
showing my support to Nikon.
Happy Snake Year to everyone out there. Thanks dragon year for all the happiness, sadness, success, failures, greatness, unglam ness... It was a year that definitely make me a stronger person in many ways.
Welcoming the year of snake, and wishing successful and more happiness.
It's really very much addictive to me to see how much this hobby is bringing me to every moment I held my camera. From an amateur who eagerly wants to produce awesome photos, to having to go through the loooong learning journey to get what is right. And having many masters and professionals sharing good informations and tips with me, to help me achieve what I want to see.
It's been an enjoyable journey so far. And it's time I talk more about my journey of my favourite genre in photography: Macro. Macro allows me to see detail that not everyone may have notice. I've been always curious about the bugs life and what's life of a bug. We often see animals in the wild life in Nat Geo or Discovery Channel, showing the life of the wild animals. Those animals are big for our naked eyes to see. But what about insects? They are having life as wild as those animals but they are hardly being notice in the jungle.
The details macro gives me, often surprises me on what insects are made up of, and the details of their body. A tiny fly may look just like a fly. But how many people do know that they have hair like human being? And to know that they have colorful compound eyes that are so unique that you will never know using your naked eyes to see. Do you know that spiders don't just have a pair of eyes, they have 4 pairs, and that's 8, just like the no. of legs they have.
Shooting macro often amazed me and I'm definitely hooked into it. It's a dirty hobby, but it's definitely something I really love to be in and ready to always get dirty to achieve good photos. I'm glad to know how much I have improve along the way, comparing what I used to produce in the past, to the most recent photos I've taken. I really appreciate everyone who is loving what I produce and I promise to come out with even better workpiece next time.
Macro is a boost for me in photography. It's something I'll never get tired shooting for. Now showing my latest workpiece shot at Bukit Timah Nature Reserve on 2nd Feb, with the company of 3 masters in macro (Peter, Eugene and Calvin).
It's February and it's really going to be a happy month for me. For I have many things to count down to.
1) It's my final 4 days of night shift in my nursing career as I'm switching to office hours by mid of the month
2) Fire works shoot at an exclusive apartment this Eve of CNY.
3) Kukup on CNY.
4) Celebrating our 5th Valentine's Day on 14/2.
5) End of shift work and end my journey in ward 78 on 17/2/13.
6) Start my office hours in L clinic (neuro-med clinic) before LiFe Centre commence in June.
It's gonna be a happy month. I'm glad at how life is for me right now. But I'm aiming for better. :)
Went to shopping at town today. With a sudden urge to shop and then my wardrobe is filled with new clothes again. Not forgetting a new toy I got for myself today. With just $48, I've gotten myself a Galaxy Tab 2. It's not the latest Galaxy Note 10.1, but at least with a tablet, it's easier for my business to start.
Imagine bringing my laptop around when I meet my clients? Yes, that's what I've been doing recently. And this tab comes in just right. It was a coincidence with the promotion that's happening in Plaza Sing from today till this Sunday. So by upgrading my existing mobile broadband, and with a monthly bill much cheaper than my previous bill, I got my Tab at $48. Worth it!!! My sub-phone as well.
:)
